Two Killed in 35-Vehicle Pileup in Bakersfield, California

A fatal crash occurred on Highway 99, just south of Taft Highway or SR-119 in the Castle Ranch area of Bakersfield, California on January 3, 2024. Two people lost their lives, and nine others sustained injuries in the 35-vehicle pileup on Interstate 5.

The pileup involved 17 cars and 18 big rigs, as reported by officials. The crash took place around 7:30 a.m. on Saturday in the southbound lanes.

The California Department of Transportation stated that the southbound lanes between SR-223 and Older River Road were closed as crews worked throughout the night to investigate and clean up the scene.
