Truck Driver Charged in Fatal Texas Truck Collision
On the afternoon of December 7, a tragedy unfolded as a 15-year-old East Texas student was fatally struck while exiting a Livingston Independent School District (LISD) bus on U.S. Highway 59 north of Livingston, Texas.
According to investigators, the truck’s driver Gregory Jackson, 41, of Texarkana, initially collided with a passenger vehicle, resulting in the vehicle striking Eduardo Romero Flores as he disembarked from the LISD bus. Jackson was charged after the accident with criminally negligent homicide. Jackson was sent to Polk County Jail, according to officials at the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The incident underscores the need for truck drivers to be better trained in attentiveness, avoiding distracted driving, accident avoidance, and best safety practices.
Flores, a 15-year-old freshman, lost his life in the tragic event. Livingston ISD released a heartfelt statement extending their condolences to the young man’s family and friends. The statement expressed deep sorrow for the loss, stating, “We are profoundly saddened by the tragic loss of one of our students. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time.”
