Three Dead in Fiery Weekend Crash on Pennsylvania Turnpike
A fiery crash on the Pennsylvania Turnpike left three people dead. The crash involved a tanker truck and two other vehicles on the Northeast Extension of the Turnpike in Worcester Township, Montgomery County, state police said Tuesday.
The crash happened in late October on the northbound lanes of the Northeast Extension (I-476) in Worcester Township between the Mid-County and Lansdale exits. Police said a vehicle stopped in the right lane of the multi-lane highway due to a flat tire. Another driver pulled up behind the car to help, with its hazard lights on, according to available information.
A tanker truck carrying jet fuel slammed into both vehicles, causing a large fire, police said. The driver of the tanker truck and the driver and passenger of the second vehicle died from their injuries. The driver of the first vehicle, the one with a flat tire, remains hospitalized.
