Seven Children Injured When a School Bus and Truck Collided

Seven children sustained injuries following a collision between a Birmingham, Alabama school Bus and an 18-wheeler on I-59, as reported by Birmingham Fire and Rescue crews. The incident occurred in late September on I-59 South near the I-65 interchange. The school bus with 17 students and chaperones from Wenonah and Jackson Olin High Schools, was returning from an event commemorating the 60th anniversary of the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing.

Officials confirmed that seven children were taken to the hospital from the accident scene. Among them, one child suffered moderate injuries, while the remaining individuals had minor injuries, according to available information. Children’s of Alabama hospital reported that their emergency department admitted seven patients, primarily with minor injuries. Later the hospital confirmed that all of the patients they received had received medical treatment and were subsequently released. The exact cause of the crash remains unclear at this time, as does the current status of the tractor-trailer driver.
