Semi Following Too Closely Caused Fatal Ohio Truck Accident

In a tragic incident on Interstate 70 in Ohio, a fatal crash unfolded on November 14, claiming the lives of three high school students and three adults. A closer look at the Ohio Department of Public Safety’s report and footage places the blame on a 2019 Freightliner semi-truck operated by Mid State Systems, officials said.

The report highlights the semi’s dangerous behavior, citing that it followed too closely in traffic and failed to slow down, setting off a deadly chain reaction. The semi, owned by Hebron-based Mid State Systems, slammed into a Nissan Murano, pushing it into a charter bus carrying students from Tuscarawas Valley Middle-High School.

As the horrifying sequence of events continued, the bus, a Nissan Murano, a Toyota Highlander, and a Volvo truck were all caught in the chaos. The semi’s impact sent the Murano crashing into the rear-end of the bus, leading to a domino effect of collisions. The bus, now propelled by the force of the semi, crashed into the Highlander, which then collided with the Volvo, creating a nightmarish scene of wreckage and flames.

The crash claimed the lives of six individuals, leaving several others with injuries. The victims, including high school students and adults, had their lives abruptly cut short in a senseless tragedy that unfolded on the busy interstate. Body camera footage released by the ODPS captures the horrifying aftermath, with officers rushing to the scene as vehicles involved in the crash were engulfed in flames.
