VIDEO – James Scherr Wins Case in Fatal Bus and 18-Wheeler Collision
El Paso attorney James Scherr has been fighting for the rights of the people who cross the border and experience injuries or worse. He takes the cases that others won’t take. Here is the story of a man who was hurt in a bus vs. truck crash.
Ben Vasquez lived in the interior of Mexico and he went to buy his bus ticket to visit friends and family in Denver. But he bought it in Mexico, paid for the ticket to go all the way to Denver, got on the bus, and boarded in Mexico and changed lines in El Paso. There were two different bus lines, but that wasn’t what mattered, according to Scherr.
As they were driving on the freeway heading up towards Albuquerque, the bus driver was driving, and an 18-wheeler pulled onto the roadway. The bus driver slammed into the rear of the 18-wheeler. Both the bus driver and the truck driver blamed each other for having caused the collision. In the meantime, all these passengers, including Ben, were injured on the bus.
The bus company basically tried to wash their hands of it because the passengers were all citizens from a foreign country. The ambulances took them to the hospitals in Albuquerque, and Ben was amongst them. Ben was one of the worst hurt in the incident. He had some metal rods and pins put in both of his legs. Both legs had serious crushing, crush, and broken bones, and they had to drill and put in rods in both legs. Scherr won the case against the bus company on behalf of his client.
