Forbes Features James Scherr “A Trial Lawyer Doing the Right Thing”

May 19, 2008 Firm News

When Forbes featured James Scherr, the story begins in El Paso, Texas. It starts “El Paso, Texas is home to one of the most successful trial attorneys in Texas. Jim Scherr has the reputation of winning difficult, complex cases that other attorneys avoid. Sitting on the 12th floor of Scherr’s 6-story office tower in downtown El Paso, Jim says hard work and long hours helped him achieve the respect of judges and lawyers everywhere.”

Here is more from the article:
Over a decade ago, Jim Scherr was the youngest attorney in Texas; now, after years of consistent hard work, Scherr has been lead counsel representing the victim in hundreds of jury trials. Jim has won numerous seven and eight-figure jury verdicts. For example, Scherr obtained the largest jury verdict ever for a single family against Union Pacific Railroad.

Scherr built the trial practice into one of the largest plaintiff trial firms from Houston to Los Angeles. He is recognized as a real trial lawyer who will try cases to verdict rather than settling for less because it’s easier.

Scherr says it has been his honor to represent many people who would not have access to the legal system without his team of attorneys. Fortunately for the clients, the firm has the staff and resources to get justice for everyone, not just the wealthy or the powerful.

“We handle a wide variety of cases,” Scherr says. “Railroad, 18-wheeler trucking, explosions, defective products, employment — including those against employers without workers’ compensation insurance — business and real estate cases, wrongful death and construction injuries are just a few of the areas in which we’ve fought for our clients’ rights.”

“Doing the Right Thing” is the trademark of Scherr’s practice. “We are committed to standing up for the ideals of justice and law. When you stand up for the Constitution of the United States, money is not the issue.”

In addition to practicing law, Jim develops real estate in his hometown of El Paso. One of his developments is the new 17-story Doubletree City Centre Hotel. Scherr committed to doing the hotel for the City of El Paso in order to kick start private investment for El Paso’s major downtown redevelopment project.
