Fatal Semi Crash on I-65 in Indiana
Indiana State Troopers and crash reconstruction investigators from the Indiana State Police Sellersburg Post are investigating a tragic three-vehicle collision on I-65 southbound, just south of Austin that occurred around 11:50 p.m. on Monday night following reports of a crash and truck fire near the 33-mile marker.
Upon arrival, responders found three semi-trucks blocking both lanes of traffic, two of which were engulfed in flames. Firefighters from multiple local departments rushed to extinguish the blaze. Preliminary findings suggest that a white Volvo semi-truck halted in traffic due to construction near the 31-mile marker, leading to a chain reaction collision involving two other southbound semi-trucks.
Tragically, both drivers of the second and third trucks lost their lives at the scene, while a driver in the third truck’s sleeper compartment sustained severe burn injuries and was airlifted to University Hospital in Louisville.
The driver of one of the semi-trucks, Julianne Reid, age 55 from Indianapolis, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
The driver of another semi, Damion Calvin Stewart from Miami, Florida, has been identified and pronounced deceased at the scene.
