Commercial Tractor-Trailer Plows into Roadside Vehicles in Fatal New York Crash
A disabled tractor-trailer and assisting utility vehicle were part of a three-vehicle crash that unfolded on I-390 North in Dansville, New York, claiming one life and leaving another hospitalized.
According to official reports, New York State Police responded to a January 9,2024 accident that involved a disabled tractor trailer operated by Elias Noam, a 71-year-old resident of Rochester, NY, and an assisting utility vehicle.
Preliminary findings from the investigation revealed that the disabled tractor trailer and the assisting utility vehicle were stationed on the shoulder of I-390 north. Roadside responders from the utility vehicle were engaged in aiding the disabled tractor trailer. Another tractor trailer, driven by Marwan Bisharat, a 55-year-old from Ontario, Canada, collided with the side of the disabled tractor trailer.
Tragically, two individual pedestrians, identified as Timothy Washburn (18 years old, Fillmore, NY) and Jason Marshall (38 years old, Portageville, NY), who were outside the disabled tractor trailer, were struck in the course of the collision. Marshall lost his life at the scene, while Timothy Washburn sustained serious injuries and was subsequently transported to Strong Memorial Hospital for medical treatment.
The Bisharat’s tractor trailer, after impacting the disabled vehicle, crossed the center median and came to a halt in the southbound lane. Marwan Bisharat, the driver of the second tractor trailer, faces charges, including Vehicular Manslaughter 2nd (D Felony), Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs (Unclassified Misdemeanor), and various traffic infractions.
This tragic crash serves as a somber reminder of the importance of road safety and the dangers of impaired truck driving, as well as lack of supervision by the motor carrier.
