Ham and Fuel Go Flying in Multi-Vehicle Truck Crash near Chicago
A refrigerated semi-truck carrying ham collided with a semi carrying fuel in a dangerous Illinois accident that sent three to the hospital with injuries, according to police. More than 1,000 gallons of gasoline spilled in the semi crash, according to available information.
The tractor-trailer that was traveling north lost control, crossed the median, and hit another semi-truck heading south, Plainfield officials said. Lanes were closed on the Illinois I-55 in Plainfield, close to Chicago, after the morning crash. The refrigerated tanker truck carrying ham splattered meat all over the road, according to officials. Plainfield Fire officials reported three people experienced minor injuries.
The crash, which occurred around 4 a.m. on I-55 at Plainfield Road, involved multiple trucks and was described by officials as a level one hazmat fuel spill. The truck accident is under investigation. Quick response by the emergency teams prevented further damages, very much a dangerous factor considering how fire can ignite with 1,000 gallons of leaked gasoline fuel at the accident scene.
